Halloween is the one night a year when a celiac kid (or a celiac grown-up) has to play detective with every piece of candy. The good news: a lot of the classics are gluten-free. The tricky part: a few favorites aren’t, and some seasonal versions of safe candy aren’t labeled gluten-free either.
So here’s my gluten-free Halloween candy list for 2026, carried all the way through Christmas stockings. Save it, screenshot it, and send it to the parent sorting the trick-or-treat haul this year.

The Golden Rule: Read the Label on the Bag You’re Buying
Candy companies change recipes and production lines, and holiday shapes and mixed fun-size bags are often made somewhere different from the regular candy. Look for the words “gluten-free” on the actual package in your hand. If you see wheat, barley, malt or “may contain wheat,” put it back.
Chocolate Classics: The Peanut Butter Crew

- Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups: the regular cups. Skip the seasonal pumpkins, trees and eggs (more on that below).
- Hershey’s Kisses: most flavors are gluten-free. Cookies ‘n’ Creme Kisses are not.
- Almond Joy and Mounds: for the coconut lovers.
- PayDay: peanuts and caramel, labeled gluten-free.
Trick-or-Treat Favorites: The Big Bar Lineup

- Snickers: including the fun-size bars.
- 3 Musketeers: light, fluffy and gluten-free.
- M&M’s: Plain and Peanut only. Crispy and Pretzel M&M’s are not gluten-free.
- Butterfinger: labeled gluten-free.
Fruity and Sour: The Rainbow Bowl

- Skittles: all the classic flavors.
- Starburst: fruit chews, labeled gluten-free.
- Smarties: every U.S. variety is gluten-free.
- Airheads: bars and minis.
Old-School Sweets: The Tootsie Tin

- Tootsie Rolls: all flavors.
- Tootsie Pops: pops and Pop Minis.
- DOTS: gumdrops, labeled gluten-free.
- Junior Mints: minty and chocolatey.
Gummy and Chewy: The Candy Corn Patch

- Jelly Belly Candy Corn and Jelly Belly jelly beans.
- Mike and Ike, plus Hot Tamales.
- Albanese Gummi Bears: the mini packs are perfect for handing out.
- Peeps Halloween shapes: ghosts, pumpkins and monsters.
Caramel and Crunch: The Golden Treats

- Heath Bars: toffee, labeled gluten-free.
- Rolo: caramel-filled chocolates.
- Milk Duds: the candy is gluten-free, but check mixed Halloween bags, where the label can drop off.
- Skor: buttery toffee.
Christmas Stocking Stuffers: The Peppermint Edit

- York Peppermint Patties: not the Zero Sugar version.
- Andes Mints: a holiday baking favorite, too.
- Dove Chocolates: foil-wrapped and stocking ready.
- Peeps: most varieties are labeled gluten-free.
The Skip List: Candy That Is NOT Gluten-Free

- Kit Kat and Twix: both have a wheat cookie inside.
- Milky Way, Whoppers and Crunch: they contain barley malt.
- Twizzlers: made with wheat flour.
- Seasonal Reese’s shapes (pumpkins, trees, eggs, hearts): made on shared lines during the holiday rush and not labeled gluten-free. Stick with the regular cups.
- Crispy and Pretzel M&M’s, Cookies ‘n’ Creme Kisses and Zero Sugar York Peppermint Patties: different recipes from the gluten-free originals.
Tips for a Celiac-Safe Halloween
- Do a candy swap. Keep a bag of safe favorites at home and trade out anything questionable when the kids get back.
- Sort by the wrapper, not the candy. Fun-size wrappers often skip the gluten-free label, so check the big outer bag when you can.
- When in doubt, leave it out. If there’s no label and no way to check, it goes in the trade pile.
- Bake a safe treat. Homemade treats you know are gluten-free take the stress off parties and trunk-or-treats.
Gluten-Free Halloween Treats to Make at Home
- Gluten-Free Rice Krispie Treats Cut Into Shapes: pumpkins, ghosts and bats, plus the cereal brands that are actually gluten-free.
- Gluten-Free Pumpkin Bars: tastes like pure fall.
- Gluten-Free Toffee Brownie Cookie Bites: perfect for party platters.
- Gluten-Free Show-Stoppers: party desserts that fool everyone.
